Miss Alabama 2021 died from the impact of a fall from the third floor of a building in Miami earlier this month, local officials have determined.
Zoe Bethel, 27, “succumbed to her injuries” on Friday, the Miami Police Department told the Washington Examiner. This follows a plunge from the building on early Feb. 11 that left her with severe damage to her brain and in a coma, according to an Instagram post written by her family on her account.
“This has been an abrupt & very traumatizing situation for our family, & we can imagine how much of a shock this will also be to everyone who knows & cares for her,” the family’s Instagram post read. “We ask that everyone please respect the privacy of our family during this time. Keep Zoe & the family in your prayers!”

The police said it responded to a call of a possible suicide attempt the night Bethel was critically injured, and a preliminary investigation found she fell out of a third-floor window. The Miami-Dade medical examiner ruled her cause of death as “Blunt Force Trauma,” and the manner of death is “Accidental,” authorities told the Washington Examiner. The police also said no foul play is suspected to be involved in the death.
