Four al Qaeda-linked terrorists were killed this month in airstrike in Yemen, U.S. Central Command announced on Friday.
Pentagon sources said the strikes were carried out by U.S. military drones on two separate days against al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP.
The U.S. military says both strikes were near Shabwah Governorate in central Yemen and were aimed at diminishing AQAP’s presence in the region.
Two of the operatives were killed in a strike on July 1, and then two more were killed on July 4, according to the military.
A Central Command release says “AQAP remains a significant threat to the region,” and that “the U.S. will not relent in its mission to degrade, disrupt and destroy al Qaeda and its remnants. We remain committed to defeating AQAP and denying it safe haven regardless of its location.”
