House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy pushed back when Fox News host Sean Hannity claimed House and Senate Republicans were still “scrambling” to create a replacement healthcare program after eight years of decrying Obamacare and vowing to repeal it.
“We had numerous plans. We had numerous ideas. We’re not scrambling. Watch what we put forward,” McCarthy said.
The California Republican said that under the Affordable Care Act, a significant amount of power was given to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. That policy, combined with GOP-controlled executive and legislative branches will aid the repeal and replacement process.
“That’s why once Tom Price gets in, that’s what we need inside, a Cabinet member,” McCarthy added.
Currently, nine healthcare replacement plans have been proposed.
Last Wednesday, House Budget Committee Chairwoman Diane Black told reporters that her committee will complete a bill to repeal Obamacare and replace parts of it “in about two weeks.”
The legislation should be ready for a vote in the House by late February or early March.
