Take Five: This weekend’s best bets for fun

Last century, and supporting local folks, are big this weekend. A look at five fun things to do in the D.C. area.

Friday: Art Attack XXVII Featuring Ben Folds and Weezer

Two great musical acts rock the suburbs — or at least the University of Maryland’s Byrd Stadium, anyway. U.Md. students get a discount, and the show is $40 for the general public. Doors at 5 p.m., show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Before or after the show: Lots of options for food and drink — it is a college town, after all. The nearby Santa Fe Cafe has happy hour daily from 4 to 7 p.m. that features $2 domestic bottles and $2 rail drinks. On Friday nights from 9 to close, enjoy $2.50 Bud Light Lime, $2 rails and vodka specials. santafecafe.com.

Friday: I Love the ’90s Film Festival

Last year it was the ’80s. This year it’s the ’90s, so break out the flannel. The annual Rosslyn weekly film series kicks off this Friday with “Clueless.” Movies such as “Wayne’s World,” “Empire Records” and “Office Space” follow during the summer, through Sept. 3. At the Gateway Park near Key Bridge, rain or shine. Begins at dusk. Free.

Closer than you think: For those new to the area, don’t be deterred by Virginia. Rosslyn is closer to Georgetown than most D.C. neighborhoods.

Saturday: Kentucky Derby Party LLS Fundraiser Party

If you plan on watching the derby, why not hoist a few mint juleps for a good cause? The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Woman of the Year Campaign is hosting a fundraiser at the Crystal City Sports Pub, tied to the viewing of the Running of the Roses. Mint juleps, drafts, complimentary appetizers and chocolate bourbon pecan pie are on the menu, and there will be a raffle with great prizes.

Great sports bar: Crystal City Sports Pub is one of the best sports bars in the country. Stick around to enjoy playoff basketball or hockey.

Saturday and Sunday: Washington Fine Arts Festival

Thousands of pieces of work by well over 100 artists will be on display this weekend at National Harbor this weekend. This free exhibit will feature artists in various media.

Never been? Lots of good shopping and dining options at National Harbor. If the weather is nice, get a seat somewhere outside with a view of the Potomac.
