Many have drawn comparisons between the new U.S. Space Force logo and the logo for Star Trek‘s Starfleet Command.
On Friday afternoon, President Trump tweeted out the design for the sixth branch of the military, writing, “After consultation with our Great Military Leaders, designers, and others, I am pleased to present the new logo for the United States Space Force, the Sixth Branch of our Magnificent Military!”

The announcement met with a quick response from personalities in media and politics. Jim Acosta, White House correspondent for CNN, compared the two logos side by side in a tweet. “Trump just announced the new logo for the Space Force. The other is Star Trek Starfleet Command.”

Josh Rogin, a Washington Post columnist and CNN political analyst, accused the logo of being a “ripoff” of the Starfleet Command logo.

George Takei, 82, known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in the film franchise, also responded on Twitter, asking the federal government to offer royalties to the developers of Star Trek.
