‘I continue to feel fine’: Matt Gaetz tests negative for coronavirus

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz announced that he tested negative for the coronavirus after being in contact with an attendee at the Conservative Political Action Conference who later tested positive for the virus.

The Republican lawmaker shared the results of his test Tuesday afternoon on Twitter, a day after he found out about his exposure to the virus.

“I’ve just been informed that my COVID-19 lab result was negative,” he explained. “In an abundance of caution, I will remain under self-quarantine at the advice of medical professionals through Thursday at 2pm. I continue to feel fine and show no symptoms.”

Gaetz was informed that he came in contact during CPAC with someone who tested positive for the virus that has infected more than 117,000 people globally. The conservative representative spent the rest of his flight in a sequestered area after interacting with President Trump on Air Force One.

The congressman spent the night in his car at a Walmart parking lot off of Interstate 85, the Pensacola News Journal reported Tuesday.

He is one of several Republican lawmakers who came in contact with a person who tested positive for the coronavirus. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona, Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows have also self-quarantined.
