The Pentagon is looking into dismantling the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest program, which allowed foreign-born visa holders, asylees and refugees in the U.S. to be put on a fast track for citizenship in return for their service, according to a report Monday morning.

Defense officials recently sent a letter to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis arguing “the potential threat posed by individuals who may have a higher risk of connections to Foreign Intelligence Services” makes the program risky to national security interests.
