CLEVELAND — Democratic leaders Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge and California Rep. Xavier Becerra joined the Democratic National Committee chairwoman to accuse the Republican Party of racism after two days of its national convention.
“I get the sense that this convention really doesn’t have doors open to everyone in America. Which is kind of scary because there was a time when my father was not welcome to walk through every door in America,” Becerra, who might be one of Hillary Clinton’s top choices for the vice presidency, said.
Becerra, who is the son of Mexican immigrants, claimed that the speakers on the convention floor may represent the Republican Party, “but that’s not America.”
Wasserman Schultz argued that Donald Trump’s rhetoric enhances division. She noted that during the RNC live stream on Tuesday night, many networks had to shut down their comments section because of all the anti-Semitic comments that came across the board.
“There is so much anti-Semitism in the Republican Party of today,” Wasserman Schultz alleged.
“If I were to look in that convention hall, I would think there are two Americas, one black and one white. There’s no diversity … All you hear is hate,” Fudge told reporters during a Hillary for America-sponsored press conference. “They still think the president is a Muslim. How stupid is that?”
She added, “These are people in my opinion, who have tainted the entire image of the United States of America.
