Barack the Casbah

Original music and topical humor is Joyce J. Scott and Lorraine L. Whittlesey’s specialty.

Their “Ebony & Irony Vll: Barack the Casbah” will be performed at 8 p.m. Saturday at An Die Musik, located at 409 North Charles St. in Baltimore.

Scott, a Baltimore native, is an internationally renowned visual artist whose works are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art and numerous other public and private collections. Her one-woman retrospective, presented by the BMA titled “Kickin’ It With the Old Masters,” broke attendance records and received critical acclaim.

Whittlesey, who moved to Baltimore from New York in 1992, has composed music that’s been performed by the Baltimore Symphony, Concert Artists of Baltimore, Naughty By Nature and the Third Millennium Ensemble.

Scott and Whittlesey have performed nearly 100 times in 12 years in numerous venues and were commissioned to write and compose an original performance piece for the Walters Art Museum for the “Vivat” celebrations in Baltimore.

All seats for Saturday’s show are $15. For more information, call 410-385-2638.
