Obama signs law creating commission to celebrate America’s 250th

President Obama signed legislation on Friday creating a commission that will oversee the celebration and observance of the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

“It is altogether fitting and proper that this historic milestone be commemorated,” Obama wrote in a signing statement accompanying the United States Semiquincentennial Commission Act of 2016.

The commission “will include officials who are members of the House and Senate, appointed by congressional leaders, private citizens appointed by congressional leaders, and non-voting ex-officio members from the executive branch,” the law provides.
