FAVORITE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION

From my downtown office I take Metro, but from home I usually drive.

BEST LIVE MUSIC

The Birchmere (wish they were coming to Silver Spring!).

BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWNERS

The Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall.

FAVORITE MUSEUM

The Museum of Women in the Arts at 13th and H Streets NW.

FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY

Curled up with a good book.

FAVORITE RESTAURANT

As a New Orleanian, I love Acadiana — especially their shrimp and grits. And their coffee with chicory.

FAVORITE OUTSIDE-THE-BELTWAY RETREAT

New Orleans, of course!

FAVORITE INSIDE-THE-BELTWAY RETREAT

Glen Echo Park, especially the Carousel and weekend dances in the Spanish Ballroom.

BEST LATE-NIGHT EATS

Where else? Ben’s Chili Bowl.

FAVORITE BREAKFAST

Definitely the Woodside Deli on Georgia Avenue (9329 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring), just inside the Beltway.

MOST D.C. MOMENT

Running into Members of Congress all over town, especially when I lived on the Hill.

PROUDEST PART OF LIVING IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL

I’ve been proud that the D.C. City Council has stood up for D.C. residents, even though they’ve sometimes been overruled by the Congress and the courts.

EMBARRASSING PART OF LIVING IN WASHINGTON

The realization that taking Metro can be nearly impossible for anyone in a wheelchair, because of the constant elevator outages.
