President Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, insisted Democrats are out to get him for the unverified claims he is pushing about Ukraine and the Bidens.
Giuliani said Democrats frustrated with his work are trying to “kill” him during an appearance on Fox Business on Thursday.
“It’s not just Biden, a bunch of Democrats. And that’s why they’re so, they’re so crazy on the subject of Ukraine and why they want to kill — literally kill me,” he claimed.
Giuliani has been conducting his own investigations into alleged corruption in Ukraine and how it was tied to the Obama administration, aiding Trump in his pressure campaign to get the country to investigate his political rival former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter. The younger Biden was on the board of a Ukrainian gas company while his father was leading the Obama administration’s efforts to tackle corruption in the country.
The revelation of efforts to get Ukraine to help investigate the Bidens led to Trump’s impeachment in the Democratic-led House on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Trump was acquitted earlier this month by the GOP-controlled Senate.
Trump, Giuliani, and their allies often point to a video of the elder Biden in 2018 bragging about threatening to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees if Ukraine did not remove prosecutor Viktor Shokin from office. Shokin was removed in 2016 amid international pressure, and has since claimed he was ousted because he was investigating the gas company Biden’s son worked for and the vice president wanted to protect his son.
