Richard Burr: Comey’s testimony on Thursday may be his only public testimony

Former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday is likely to be his only public testimony.

Committee chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C., told reporters Tuesday Comey told him he isn’t expecting to talk again in front of Congress.

“I don’t know what he’s going to talk about. I know he accepted our invitation and he expressed that this would be the only public hearing he would hold,” Burr said, according to The Hill.

Comey is set to testify on the Russian government’s meddling in the 2016 election and conversations he had with President Trump about the investigation. Multiple reports have given contrasting characterizations of what Comey will say; CNN reported last week Comey would say Trump asked him to end the investigation into his former national security adviser Mike Flynn, while ABC reported Tuesday Trump would stop short of that.

Comey will testify in a public hearing at 10 a.m. and is later scheduled to speak with committee members behind closed doors.

Comey has been invited to testify in front of other congressional committees, and has turned down those invitations.

Trump said he wished Comey luck in his testimony in comments to reporters.
