Former Navy chief joins BAE Systems board

The most-recent chief of naval operations has joined the board of a BAE Systems Inc., the defense company announced Tuesday.

Retired Adm. Jonathan Greenert will serve on the company’s board of directors in the U.S. for a three-year term.

“Admiral Greenert brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from a distinguished, 40-year career as a senior military officer and government leader,” said Michael Chertoff, chairman of the BAE Systems board of directors. Chertoff is a former Homeland Security secretary. “His experience in management, operations, and strategic planning will be highly valuable, and I’m pleased to welcome him to the board.”

Greenert retired from the Navy’s top job in October after serving four years as the chief of naval operations, where he oversaw the service’s budget and advised the president. He served for 40 years in the Navy and is a submariner by trade.
