Gray aware of felony before hiring Whiting, report says

D.C. Mayor Vince Gray was aware that Cherita Whiting had a felony conviction on her record before hiring her for, The Washington Times reported Wednesday.

Gray has already said he is now vetting ever political appointment he has made. Whiting was given a $65,000 annual salary for special assistant position in the Department of Health Care Finance, the same agency that hired Sulaimon Brown. His subsequent firing has led him to level a series of accusations against the mayor that are now the subject of an investigation by the Office of Campaign Finance.

Whiting is well known in D.C. political circles. Her father, go-go king Chuck Brown, played at Gray’s inauguration.
