Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Andrew Janz, who is competing to unseat Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., received more than $1 million in the first quarter of 2018, according to a new report.
Janz attributed the large haul in part to Nunes’ lack of attention to issues pertinent to California. A boost in donations first occurred shortly after the House Intelligence Committee, led by Nunes, released a memo in February that outlined alleged surveillance violations by the U.S. government to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
“Devin Nunes is in Washington playing games on the House Intelligence Committee,” Janz told CNN. “And while he is doing that the issues back here at home that people care about are being ignored.”
Despite the surge of donations, Janz has not yet received official support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democrat’s House fundraising branch.
According to recent Federal Election Commission filings, Nunes has more than $4 million in cash on hand for the 2018 election. The Nunes campaign did not respond to CNN’s media request.
If elected, Janz has promised he will not support House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., for speaker of the House in the event that Democrats take control of the House.
