New Jersey governor abruptly ends briefing after learning of contact with coronavirus patient

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy left a press event suddenly after learning that he was exposed to a person diagnosed with COVID-19.

Murphy, a Democrat, was speaking at an event at Camden County Community College Wednesday with Democratic Rep. Donald Norcross when he learned that he had come into close contact with someone on Saturday who has since tested positive for the coronavirus.

“I will now, unfortunately, have to take myself off the field,” he said at the event. “I can’t ask President Trump not to come to Bedminster and do a fundraiser and have me sit here.”

Murphy said he had tested negative for the virus on Monday before knowing that he had been exposed and said he would get tested again Wednesday. He said he currently has no symptoms.
