Columbia?s Lincoln Tech gets degree-granting status

Lincoln Technical Institute in Columbia is the first private career school in Maryland to be awarded bachelor’s degree-granting status, Lincoln Educational Services Corp. announced this week.

The school, which opened more than 45 years ago, received approval from the Maryland Higher Education Commission for two bachelor degree programs in:

• Technical or professional studies in automotive technology leadership;

• Technical or professional studies in technology leadership and supervision.

“Our bachelor degree programs at Columbia will enable our current students to pursue a higher degree level and will serve as complete degree programs for a large number of students in Maryland that currently hold associate’s degrees and cannot transfer their earned credits to out-of-state programs,” said Dave Carney, chairman and chief executive officer of Lincoln Educational Services, in a statement.

The college also received approval for two associate’s degree programs in applied science in automotive technology and applied science in technology and skilled trades.

Lincoln Tech now needs approval from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Lincoln Educational Service is a for-profit provider of career-oriented, post-secondary education.
