Take Five: This weekend’s best bets for fun

Yes, the calendar says November. But so what if there’s a chill in the air? That’s why we have jackets, so we can check out all the things the area has to offer. Five things to do this weekend:

Friday: Comedian Daniel Tosh at the Warner Theatre

Anyone who can make a career out of making snarky comments and clever witticisms about Internet video clips gets our respect. Comedian Tosh is the host of “Tosh.0” on Comedy Central, which is just that. But Tosh is more than a guy just cracking wise. His comedy career spans nearly a decade. Catch him at the Warner Theatre at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Friday. $37. warnertheatre.com

Funny weekend: Mark Curry (“of “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper” fame) is at the Arlington Cinema ‘n’ Drafthouse on Friday and Saturday (arlingtondrafthouse.com), and Caroline Rhea appears at the Lansburgh Theater on Friday (shakespearetheatre.org).

Saturday: Annapolis Food & Wine Festival

Hey, not like one needs an excuse to visit Annapolis — especially if the weather is nice — but food and wine just make the trip all that much better. Check out the first Annapolis Food & Wine Festival, down by the dock. Enjoy food from local restaurants, as well as dozens of wines. From 2 to 6 p.m. $35.

Closer to home: Paradise Springs Winery, located in Fairfax County and the closest Virginia winery to D.C., is having a special event Friday to celebrate the release of its Meritage. paradisespringswinery.com.

Through Sunday: Alexandria Film Festival

Much to the delight of area film buffs, this fourth annual event is back again at locations across Alexandria.  Enjoy more than 35 films, covering various genres, both local and international. The curators had to narrow down the selection from the more than 100 submissions they received. Schedules, locations and ticket prices vary, so visit alexandriafilm.org for more details.

More film: The European Union Film Showcase at AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring recently opened and runs through Nov. 23. afi.com/silver.

Saturday and Sunday: Mid City Artists Open Studio Tour

Find out just how much artistic energy D.C. has to offer at the annual Mid City Artists Open Studio Tour this Saturday and Sunday. Almost 20 studios in the D.C. neighborhoods of Dupont Circle, Logan Circle and the U Street corridor will open their doors to the public to check out talented local artists. For details, including a PDF map of participating studios, visit midcityartists.com

More MCA events: Thomas Drymon is showing at Caramel on U Street through Nov. 13.

Saturday: Rock and Roll for Children Foundation Fundraiser at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel

The 2010 Rock and Roll Bash, a fundraiser benefiting the Rock and Roll for Children Foundation, takes place at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel on Saturday. According to its Web site, the Rockville-based foundation “is committed to raising funds to assist a variety of charities focused on helping children in need and their families.” This year’s show is headlined by Colin Hay from Men at Work, as well as many other musicians. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. $250. For more info, visit rockandrollforchildren.org.

Little more affordable: Ra Ra Riot performs at the 9:30 Club on Friday. $18. 930.com.
