‘Why should we believe him?’: Bette Midler accuses Trump of lying about negative coronavirus test

Actress and singer Bette Midler doesn’t believe that President Trump tested negative for the coronavirus.

White House physician Sean Conley released a statement over the weekend saying the president had taken a test for the virus and that it came back negative. He said, “Last night, after an in-depth discussion with the president regarding COVID-19 testing, he elected to proceed. This evening, I received confirmation that the test is negative.”

But Midler cast doubt on the doctor’s confirmation.

“You know, #Donald says he has tested negative for #Coronavirus. But why should we believe him? He has lied over 16,000 times in the last three years! Why would he not be lying now?” Midler said Sunday.

The entertainer is an outspoken critic of Trump, even joking in 2019 that the president should get stabbed.

After the president called her a “washed up psycho” last summer, she tweeted, “He actually looks better here! Maybe someone in his camp can gently give him a shiv. I mean, shove. Midler later deleted the tweet but compared the Twitter spat to World War II’s devastating Battle of the Bulge one day before the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

As of Tuesday, there were more than 4,000 cases of the coronavirus in the United States and more than 70 deaths from it.
