Hampton Roads traffic congestion a time sink

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — A new report says motorists in Hampton Roads spend thousands of hours stuck in traffic.

The Daily Press (http://bit.ly/Lkte6n ) says the report by the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization examined 2010 traffic delays at choke points in the region.

According to the report, Norfolk’s Downtown Tunnel has the worst congestion. During morning peak periods, motorists experienced nearly 2,000 hours of delays. Traffic delays increased during afternoon peak periods to about 2,500 hours.

The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel had the second-highest number of afternoon delays, about 2,100 hours. The Midtown Tunnel was second for morning delays with more than 500 hours.
