The buzz has been relentless for months, but now that it’s official, somehow we’re still kind of shocked: After almost eight years of marriage, Madonna and Guy Ritchie are divorcing.
The Material Girl and the British director haven’t reached a settlement, reps noted in a statement.
In spite of their attempts to make it work, ultimately “it wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’” the couple would split, a source told the U.K.’s Sun. “They tried hard over the last few months but their fighting was getting out of control.”
Allegedly, Madonna’s urge to adopt another child, as well as Guy being “sick of his career taking a backseat to hers” were two points the pair clashed over. (No word on whether a certain New York Yankees star also figured into their fights.)
Even the way they would part ways became a point of contention, the source adds: “Madonna wanted a highly stage-managed separation” to be announced after her Sticky & Sweet tour, “but a series of rows around Guy’s 40th birthday last month were so bad that Madge ended up storming out of the house and Guy’s had enough. Guy said if they were going to split, it has to be now.”
“Everyone agrees it is unfair on the children to witness such terrible arguments and so the divorce has been agreed,” the source
concludes.
We’re sad for the family — but if this means Madonna will stop speaking in a British accent now, perhaps it’s for the best.
Pre-nuptial disagreement
Did Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony renew their wedding vows to smooth over a rough patch in their relationship? According to foxnews.com, the night before their spontaneous wee-hours re-nup in Las Vegas, the couple weren’t exactly getting along.
Late Friday night, J.Lo and Marc got the star treatment at Bank nightclub in the Bellagio — but didn’t stay long, as the diva appeared annoyed with her man.
“Marc seemed more interested in chatting to the guys in the table beside them,” a source explained. “Jennifer made it clear she wasn’t having it.”
Maybe she just didn’t like having another table within earshot — what kind of VIP area was this, anyway?
Colin was ‘dying’
Colin Farrell has cleaned up his act in a big way — and he says he did it to save his life.
The Irish actor confessed in a BBC interview that before entering rehab in 2005, he had essentially been “drunk or high since I was 14.”
Getting sober “was a tough life change, but I was dying,” the “Miami Vice” star admits.
“And I’m one of the lucky ones,” he points out, “because — so far — I’ve got out of it.”
Congrats to Colin on staying away from the sauce. We’d like to suggest that he turn down any opportunities to shoot a movie with Matthew McConaughey. Just sayin’.
Not mean ‘Girls’
There’s no bitterness between Hugh Hefner and his ex-girlfriends Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson — even though he’s already lined up 19-year-old twins to replace them.
Of her “Girls Next Door” heirs apparent, Karissa and Kristina Shannon, former alpha girlfriend Holly Madison enthuses to Us, “He’s having lots of fun with them — and a lot of other people.”
That said, she adds, “I would never try to personally pick Hef’s new girlfriend. I would like him to take his time and actually get to know somebody — which he never does! But as long as he’s having fun, I’m happy for him!”
For her part, Kendra says of the serial-dating Playboy mogul, “I’ll always be there for him. We’re all still friends. Nothing is going to change that.”
“Hef will always be Hef,” Kendra notes. “He’ll keep loving women, keep loving the big boobs and blondes.”
In other news, the sun will continue to rise in the east.
