Duncan Hunter campaign mailer targets Arab American opponent and Muslim congresswomen

Rep. Duncan Hunter sent out a campaign mailer to members of his southern California district attacking Muslim members of Congress and his Arab American opponent.

Ammar Campa-Najjar, Hunter’s opponent both in 2018 and again in 2020, has been attacked by the congressman for his dead grandfather’s alleged ties to the 1972 terror attack involving the deaths of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics.

The mailer featured a photo of one of the terrorists involved in the 1972 attack wearing a ski mask on one side and photos of Campa-Najjar and Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib on the other side, according to Politico.

“Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ammar Campa-Najjar … these three radical Democrats want you to forget their anti-semitism or family-terrorist ties!” a note from Hunter says. “But as a Marine I’ll never forget the 1983 Beirut bombings and the 1972 Olympic murders!”

“It is a piece put out by Congressman Hunter’s campaign,” Hunter spokesman Michael Harrison told Politico. “It’s a hard-hitting piece because these are significant issues that our opponent refuses to acknowledge. This is just yet another example of a full-time candidate doing anything to get some attention because after three straight years of campaigning, Ammar has failed to gain any traction on substantive issues that affect our district.”

Duncan, who has been indicted for campaign finance violations, previously targeted Campa-Najjar, who is Christian, for his grandfather’s alleged actions decades ago.

The California congressman beat Campa-Najjar in 2018 by receiving 52% of the vote.
