Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., on Sunday denied a report that he is considering a Senate run in 2018.
The recently terminated “Celebrity Apprentice” star announced on Facebook that at least for now, when it comes to a run for office, he won’t be back.
“I’m deeply flattered by all of the people who have approached me about running for Senate, but my mission right now is to bring sanity to Washington through redistricting reform like we passed here in California,” Schwarzenegger wrote.
“Gerrymandering has completely broken our political system and I believe my best platform to help repair it is from the outside, by campaigning for independent redistricting commissions,” Schwarzenegger continued. “Thank you for your kind messages and all of the support and I hope you’ll join me in my battle against gerrymandering with the same enthusiasm.”
Schwarzenegger, 69, served as governor from 2003 to 2011. GOP sources inside the Golden State had said he was looking at a 2018 run as an independent for Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat, according to the Thursday report.
