Lindsey Graham tells Trump: ‘You can’t be cute’ about tapes

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., sided with Democrats on Sunday, calling for President Trump to make available any tapes he has of conversations with former FBI Director James Comey.

“If there are any tapes, they have to be turned over. You can’t be cute about tapes, if there are any tapes of this conversation, then they need to be turned over. I doubt that there are,” Graham told “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd on NBC.

The South Carolina lawmaker said Trump’s tweet earlier this week about possible “tapes” must be answered. He also advised Trump not to tweet or comment on the situation going forward even though he is not aware of any investigation specifically looking at the commander in chief — which Trump has asserted Comey repeatedly told him.

Graham called on Comey to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee to address any talks with Trump, including the dinner Trump and Comey had together a week after the inauguration.

Graham recommended that the next FBI director a should be an FBI agent.

The White House is currently vetting a number of candidates for the job. Trump said Saturday that he expects to announce a decision by the end of next week.
