Hollywood’s highest-paid star can’t always get his way. Or can he?
To avoid an ugly court battle, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are reportedly working toward a quiet, private divorce settlement. The former power couple’s attorneys have reportedly been negotiating behind closed doors for the past several days to avoid their July 17 date in family court.
Katie filed for divorce in New York on June 28 and is seeking sole custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Suri.
No doubt Tom doesn’t want this divorce to play out in public since he seems to have the most to lose. He might still bring in the big bucks at the box office, but his reputation has been tarnished due to his off-screen antics — remember couch jumping with Oprah? — and his religious beliefs.
Settling out of court may cost him a bit more money in the long run, but it will save him some embarrassment if Katie would decide to play dirty to keep her daughter away from Scientology (reports indicate that if Katie gets custody, Suri will be raised Catholic).
An E! News legal source said, “High-profile entertainers don’t want their personal stuff being thrown out there in the courtroom and ending up on Twitter. They want to keep it as under control as possible.”
The attorney goes on to say that it would be rare “that a couple as high-profile as this will actually head to court.”
So stay tuned. This divorce/custody battle might end up being fast, but no doubt, it will be interesting.
Justin files harassment suit against pap who chased him
Justin Bieber has had yet another eventful weekend involving both his car and the paparazzi.
Justin was cited in Los Angeles for speeding (80 mph) in his chrome Fisker Karma on Friday, but witnesses are saying he was going in excess of 100 mph while being chased by reckless photographers.
Law enforcement sources have told TMZ that Justin called 911 after he was ticketed because paps immediately resumed their pursuit of the singer. According to the gossip site, JB has reached out to the California Highway Patrol to file a complaint against the aggressive photographer who he claims was chasing him down the highway.
Witnesses have said that during the chase, several shooters were seen flying down the highway after the young pop star and some even took to the shoulder to catch up with him. Reports also indicate that more than 10 911 calls were received about the high-speed chase. But Justin was prepared with his harassment complaint — he had the offending pap’s license plate number ready for the CHP officer.
And even though this guy is being investigated, that didn’t stop him from doing his job. He was spotted snapping shots of Justin on a shoot for his new video Sunday.
Usher charters plane to fly ex-wife to injured son’s side
All the drama between Usher and his ex-wife, Tameka Foster, is surely forgotten right now.
Usher’s stepson (Tameka’s biological son) Kyle Glover was struck in the head by a Jet Ski in Georgia on Friday while riding on an inner tube that was being pulled behind a boat.
Kyle is said to have been unresponsive when he was taken out of the water and is now listed as being in critical condition. Officials have told a local news station in Georgia that alcohol did not play a part in the incident.
The 11-year-old was riding with a 15-year-old girl, who also suffered serious injuries, when the accident happened.
TMZ says Usher, who is currently in a heated custody fight with Tameka, chartered a plane for his ex-wife, who was out of town, to take her straight to her son’s side at an Atlanta hospital.
