Viewers who watched “The Animaniacs” as children may be surprised years later at the mature humor and vast number of cultural references to be found in one of the best kids? cartoons ever made.
On Volume 2 of the DVD release of the show, the Warner Brothers, Yakko and Wakko, along with the Warner Sister, Dot,trek around the world and through time, causing trouble and mayhem everywhere they go.
The box set features 25 episodes on five discs, including a “The Writers Flipped, They Have No Script” extra featuring voice actor Maurice LaMarche leading a discussion of the writers? favorite episodes.
The style of animation, orchestral soundtrack and six-minute episode format of “The Animaniacs” evoke the classic Warner Bros. cartoons starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. While Wakko, Yakko and Dot, along with their friends ? including Pinky and The Brain, who later had their own show ? are much more irreverent than their predecessors, some of the old gags ( explosions, anvils, whacks on the head) endure the test of time and are still irrestistably hilarious.
