The veterans organization that President Trump addressed on Tuesday said it was “disappointed” that some of its members booed the press during the event.
“We were disappointed to hear some of our members boo the press. The reporters on-site today were our invited guests and we rely on them to help spread the VFW’s message,” said Randi Law, manager of communications and public affairs for VFW.

During his address at the group’s convention in Kansas City, Mo., Trump pointed at the media in attendance and condemned outlets that have been critical of his proposed tariffs, singling out CNN and NBC News.
“Don’t believe the crap that you see from these people. The fake news,” Trump said. The comment was followed by an uproar in the audience.

Trump often rebukes news outlets that publish stories that are critical of him or his policies as “fake news.”
Also at the event Tuesday, Trump urged the crowd of thousands of veterans to support Senate GOP candidate Josh Hawley in his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, claiming Republicans desperately need to increase their majority in the upper chamber this fall.
