Democrats are not satisfied at President Trump’s decision to release the full and unredacted transcript of his July 25 phone call with Ukraine President Voldymyr Zelensky.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Trump must provide Congress with the whistleblower complaint about the call, which came from a person without direct knowledge of the conversation but could involve other concerns about Trump’s behavior.
“We need the complaint of the whistleblower,” Schumer said. “We don’t even know what the complaint is about.”
The complaint was leaked to the news media last week.
The Intelligence Community Inspector General, in a letter to the House Intelligence Committee, described the matter as “urgent” and said the complaint is “credible.”
“Without the complaint we don’t know what the IG saw as so urgent,” Schumer said.
Trump announced Tuesday afternoon that he plans to release the full transcript of the call with Zelensky, which came a few days after Trump froze $400 million in military aid that was designated for Ukraine.
According to news reports, Trump wanted Zelensky to investigate allegations that Vice President Joe Biden threatened to withhold funding from Ukraine unless it removed a prosecutor targeting an oil company that was providing his son, Hunter, with a hefty salary.
Biden has denied the charge.
Trump has denied asking for anything in return for providing aid.
