Ehrlich staff preparing publication on his ?legacy?

While soon-to-be jobless members of Gov. Robert Ehrlich?s staff are polishing their resumes and preparing transition papers for the newly elected administration of Gov.-elect Martin O?Malley, they are also beginning to put together material for a publication about Ehrlich?s “legacy.”

“We working on developing something,” said Ehrlich communications director Paul Schurick. They?re trying to figure out “how to best memorialize the accomplishments of the term,” which he characterized as “broad and substantive.”

Schurick helped produce a similar report on the two-term achievements of Gov. William Donald Schaefer, whom he served as press secretary and chief of staff. “I feel privileged to get to do this twice,” Schurick said.

The Schaefer document was a 24-page glossy tabloid with many color photos, although the publication contained only a modest eight photos of Schaefer himself. Calling itself “Maryland Times,” the publication said it was paid for by private donations, and the design and printing was contributed, but it was “coordinated by the Governor?s Press Office.”

Schaefer himself supplied a first-person commentary on “The Publisher?s Page.”

Schurick said any publication will be a lot easier to put together than it was 12 years ago, because of “the advantages and benefits of technology.”
