British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced his plans for resignation after consultation with the Queen.
Cameron won reelection just last year, the first Conservative PM to win reelection since Margaret Thatcher.
Differing from some on the British right, Cameron urged Britons to vote to remain in the European Union.
In a speech given Friday morning in London outside of 10 Downing Street, Cameron suggested a new PM could be in place by October, when the Conservative party meets for a conference.
“The British people have voted to leave the European Union and their will must be respected” Cameron said. “I do not think that it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers the country to our next destination…” adding: “I think the country requires fresh leadership.”
