More than 5,000 high school and college students in Seattle walked out of classes on Monday to protest President-elect Donald Trump in what is the second week of demonstrations the incoming leader has faced since winning the election last Tuesday.
Around 1:30 p.m. local time Monday, students from Franklin High School, Garfield High School, The Center School, Nova High School, Seattle University and the University of Washington collectively abandoned their campuses and converged on Capitol Hill for a march to Westlake Park.
Students ended at the park around 4:15 p.m. for the “Protest for Solidarity.” Seattle police said there were no arrests in the group of minors and young adults, but did arrest two adult men for assaulting officers.
By 5 p.m. local time, the group had significantly dropped off to approximately 100 people.
Seattle Public School District told the local NBC affiliate that students who walked out will get an “unapproved absence,” but won’t face discipline since they were peacefully demonstrating. The spokesperson added that the district did not advocate for students to leave school grounds.
