Former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is no longer interested in public office.
This includes being Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate, Carson revealed, calling it “something that is extremely undesirable to me, as is any government post, quite frankly,” he said on CNN’s “New Day” Monday morning.
“I have no intention of running for office. I believe that citizen statesmen can work from outside the government in a capacity where they contribute to the well-being of the country,” he added.
Carson also declined to disclose to host Chris Cuomo any details on who Trump, the presumptive nominee, is considering to be his running mate.
“Any name you’re going to throw out, I’ll say, ‘yeah, sure,'” he explained. “That doesn’t mean they’re under consideration or that they’re on the short list.
“I’m not going to get into that. I’ve already made my suggestions and had the conversations. My involvement is continuing to make sure that Donald Trump’s candidacy is successful and, more importantly, that America is successful,” the retired neurosurgeon said.
Carson appeared to confirm Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as “all people on our list,” according to a weekend report by the Washington Post.
