The List

Best Theater

1. ?Driving Miss Daisy?

Now?s the chance to relive the story that tugged at people?s heartstrings and captured many awards, including the 1988 Pulitzer Prize.

The warm story about an aging Southern lady and the proud, soft-spoken black man who is her chauffeur illustrates friendship over several decades.

The story, written by Alfred Uhry, was part of “Atlanta Trilogy,” which dealt with Jewish residents of the city in the 20th century. The story was turned into a film, starring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy. It won the 1989 Academy Award for best picture.

In the story, Daisy is defined through her relationships and emotions. Although the title implies the chauffeur tells the story, he is rarely seen outside of his interaction with Daisy.
