New White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said Sunday the White House has a communications problem that has led to President Trump using his Twitter account to push out his message.
“There’s obviously a communications problem because there’s a lot of things that we’ve done related to executive orders, bills that we’ve signed, economic progress [that isn’t talked about],” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“Over the next six months, we’re going to have phenomenal achievements in this administration.”
When asked if he was worried about the president’s tweets and hastily-arranged interviews undermining the White House’s communications strategy, Scaramucci said he’s not concerned about that.
“He doesn’t feel he’s being effectively defended in the mainstream media with the nonsensical narratives that are out there, and we’re going to change that,” he said.
“He’ll probably dial back some of those tweets.”
However, Scaramucci said there won’t be a big push from him to get the president to stop tweeting and doing things his way.
“He’s 71 years old, we’re not going to change him,” he said.
On “Fox News Sunday,” Scaramucci said he’s going to plan on letting Trump’s personality shine through.
“I want the president to be the president and I want him to express the full nature of his personality,” he said. “Corey Lewandowsky used to say early on in the campaign, let Trump be Trump, it’s a little disrespectful now because he’s the president so let’s the president be the president. And my point is if he wants to talk about things like that I’m not going to want to stop him or even be able to stop him. I want to be there to help aid and abed his agenda.”
Scaramucci said one of his great tasks would be cutting down on the leaks coming out of the White House that have led to damaging stories against the administration.
He said he’s going to go into the White House’s communications team and say, “we’re gonna stop the leaks and if we don’t stop the leaks, I’m going to stop you.”
