The Drive Guys tackle remote devices

Drive Guys,

I need some help in finding someone to provide and program a remote device for a 2000 VW Jetta. I know the dealers can do this but they appear to have cornered the market and are unreasonably expensive. I was quoted $270. Do you know of any locksmiths in the Alexandria area who might be able to assist?

Thanks,

Jack

Ed – Hi Jack,

You are right, you will have to deal with the dealer for part of your problem.  The only reliable place, possibly the only place, the replacement remote will be available is the dealer.  Now, this can be programmed at many independent shops if they have the proper computer data to accomplish it. I am not sure if you have other remotes that you want to use, but ALL of them will need to be programmed at the same time.  These systems and replacement parts are not cheap, but I’m not sure I would want them available for $19.95.

Jeff- DITTO! The dealer is your best option. Most independent repair facilities will not invest on equipment that would take years to recoup the initial investment. Try calling Foreign Car Care in Alexandria. They may have the ability to take care of this for you, as they specialize in European auto repair. You can more info on them at AAA.com under approved auto repair.
