Six injured in boat explosion on Georgia’s Lake Lanier

Half a dozen people, including two teenagers, were injured after a boat exploded in Georgia over the weekend.

A boat in Georgia’s Lake Lanier erupted into flames on Sunday afternoon, sending three people to the hospital. The explosion took place around 2:30 p.m. at the gas docks for the Port of Indecision at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands. Upon arriving, officials found “a boat fully involved, an associated dock fire due to a jet ski that drifted away from the fire area and six patients to evaluate,” according to a statement from the Hall County Fire Department.

Officials said the two teenagers, a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were airlifted to a local hospital, while a 39-year-old woman was rushed there. The identities and conditions of the victims have yet to be released.

Three others who were hurt in the blast either received medical attention on the scene or declined an ambulance.

“It took them a little bit to get the fire out of control, but by the time we left, it was still a small amount of fire on the boat,” bystander Annette Ross told a local outlet. “They put the small [Jet Ski] fire where you fuel up out. It took about 10 or 15 minutes before you started hearing the sirens.”

She added that the “back half of the boat was completely engulfed in flames.”
