The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Westwood gave her thoughts on the roughly 20 Democrats in Congress who are criticizing President Joe Biden’s decision to end Title 42.
The title was a public health order that precluded a majority of immigrants from entering the country amid the pandemic. Democrats opposing the order’s end included the “usual suspects,” such as West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, but also some surprises.
“As his approval ratings are falling so precipitously, there’s just very little upside. Increasingly, [there is] a larger downside for sticking with Biden and defending a decision that’s so unpopular,” Westwood told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto.

“First of all, the Biden administration has mishandled this from start to finish, especially when it comes to messaging at the same time,” Westwood added. “They were announcing an end to Title 42 and declaring the COVID emergency over enough to lift this public health order. They were reinstating the mask mandates on airplanes.”
“[The administration was] sort of saying that the emergency is over enough to make this very unpopular immigration move. But it’s still urgent enough that you have to wear a mask on Amtrak or on an airplane. So the messaging was bungled,” she continued.
