Blue ribbons memorialize Dwight shooting victims

DWIGHT, Ill. (AP) — Neighbors have tied blue ribbons to trees in a central Illinois village where a shooting left a mother and a daughter dead.

The Daily Journal in Kankakee reports (http://bit.ly/1m2WOze ) organizers of the campaign in Dwight want to remember the victims and help support the younger woman’s son.

The blue memorial bows are raising money for the son of 30-year-old Kelli Denker, who was killed June 14 along with her mother, 60-year-old Donna Denker. A 23-year-old man also was shot and is recovering.

Organizers say they’ve distributed 50 ribbons for a suggested donation of $5 each. It’s a way to channel their uneasiness and anxiety about the unsolved crime.

Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says investigators are making progress in the case.
