Report: Trump wants to keep stake in his company as president

Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka are expected to step down from the president-elect’s real estate company, but he still intends to keep a stake in the business.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Trump is considering handing operational duties for Trump Organization over to his adult sons, exploring a “legal structure” that would separate him from the business.

Ivanka Trump would also leave the company, and has been reportedly house hunting in Washington, D.C., as speculation builds as to what role her husband, Jared Kushner, will play in her father’s administration.

Anti-nepotism laws could make it difficult for Kushner to have a formal role in the White House, however.

According to the Times, Ivanka Trump is also exploring how to detach herself from her licensing and apparel brands, and could appoint a president of her company to run daily operations.

Trump said last week that he would make an announcement on Dec. 15 about “leaving my great business in total in order to fully focus on running the country.”

The Office of Government Ethics in a series of tweets in late November told Trump the “only way” to resolve conflicts of interests with his business would be to divest.

“This divestiture does what handing over control could never have done,” the office wrote.
