De Blasio blames alarm clock for missing early morning interview

Presidential candidate Bill de Blasio blamed his alarm clock for showing up late to an interview with a local television network Tuesday morning.

He was supposed to appear on WPIX11 at 7:30 a.m. but didn’t leave Gracie Mansion until 8:01 a.m., according to host Dan Mannarino, which was first reported by the New York Post.

Following the eight-minute interview, Mannarino said, “We dragged you out of bed early, I appreciate it.”

De Blasio responded, “Thank you, man.”

The television host later tweeted that de Blasio told him that he “set his alarm for the wrong time.”

During the interview, the New York City mayor was asked about the death of 9/11 first responder Luis Alvarez. Alvarez, who advocated on behalf of the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund in front of the House Judiciary Committee last month, died Saturday following a long fight with cancer.

De Blasio called Alvarez a “true New York hero.”
