Climate change and Donald Trump were hot topics in talks between California lawmakers and the Mexican president Thursday.

Democratic members of the Golden State’s legislature crossed the border to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and other top Mexican officials in Mexico City.

The discussions included a host of issues affecting both California and Mexico, including jobs, the environment and climate change. But discussion of the Republican nominee could not, it seems, be avoided.

State Sen. Kevin de Leon, who lead the delegation, said in a tweet, “We talked about climate change, environment, job growth that benefits #CAandMex, and of course, Donald Trump.”

The visit comes just weeks after the Republican nominee flew to Mexico for a meeting with the Mexican president, where a row soon unfolded over what was, and was not, discussed at the meeting.

Trump said at a press conference with Nieto that his plan to build a wall along the border and have Mexico pay for it was not discussed. Nieto appeared to be in agreement that the issue was not raised. Shortly after Trump departed, however, the Mexican president told reporters that they did discuss the wall.
