Clinton overtakes Trump in NC poll

Hillary Clinton has overtaken Donald Trump in a new North Carolina poll.

The Elon University Poll showed Clinton surged past Trump after the first presidential debate to a 5.5-percentage-point lead, 44.5 to 39, among likely voters. An Elon poll conducted in September found Trump held a 1-point advantage, 44-43.

“We are seeing an unusually strong post-debate bump for Clinton in North Carolina,” said Jason Husser, director of the Elon University Poll, in a statement.

Nearly two-thirds of North Carolina likely voters, 64 percentage points, who viewed the debate thought Clinton won, and she successfully widened the gender gap to her advantage since the debate’s conclusion.

Elon polled 762 registered voters, including 660 likely voters, by cell phone and landline telephones from September 27-30. The likely voter sample size had a 3.81-percentage-point margin of error.
