WATCH: Hillary Clinton says today’s GOP shows ‘too many characteristics’ of fascism

Former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea joined the ladies of The View Wednesday, where she warned that today’s Republicans display “too many characteristics” of fascism.

Asked about President Joe Biden’s controversial speech in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Clinton told the hosts that he “did a very important service to the country” and she is “not going to second guess the language he used.”

Despite claiming that “we do need to be careful with our language,” she reiterated that “I personally thought it was a strong and necessary speech.”

This comes after Biden slammed the ideology of former President Donald Trump’s supporters in another set of recent remarks, calling it “semi-fascism,” which the White House then doubled down on, defending the criticism.

Regarding the president’s remarks, Clinton agreed that the current Republican Party shares “too many characteristics” with fascist “authoritarian regimes.”

She went on to say that she wished the Republican Party of the past would make a return, explaining that the “party of Trump” is “very dangerous to the country.”

Before asking the women about their new show Gutsy, the hosts skipped right to Trump, anxious to hear his former rival’s opinion. Asked about the documents allegedly mishandled by the former president, Clinton stressed how serious the situation is.

Having dealt with her own scandal involving mishandled official communications, she said: “No one is above the law and the rule of law in a democracy.”

However, “we should not rush to judgment,” she added.

“We should take it seriously. We should be concerned about it, and we should follow the facts and the evidence,” the former secretary of state continued.

The mother-daughter duo is promoting their new docuseries Gutsy, in which they meet and talk to several prolific women. The series premieres on Apple TV on Friday.
