WASHINGTON (AP) — A D.C. police detective specializing in sexual assault investigations and an officer known for community outreach are among those who have been honored at an awards ceremony.
The Washington DC Police Foundation on Thursday presented awards to six officers and civilians at an awards ceremony at the Arena Stage.
This is the seventh annual awards ceremony. Winners received a plaque and a $1,000 gift.
Among the winners was Alexander Mac Bean, a sex assault detective who said before the ceremony that he was honored by the award and that it recognizes the hard work his entire unit has done in the past year.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier and other top officials attended the ceremony. Lanier said the District is on pace for the fewest number of homicides recorded in decades.
