Actor Mark Ruffalo told Democrats Friday that they should “be brutal” as they fight against the fossil fuel industry.
“We’re going to have to fight… and our leaders have got to take off the gloves and tell it like it is and be brutal and make people uncomfortable,” the “Spotlight” star said at a hearing focusing on environmental issues held by the Democratic National Committee’s platform drafting committee.
Ruffalo, who testified at the Phoenix, Ariz., hearing via video call, argued that the public must respond with a vengeance against the “corruptive” influence of the fossil fuel industry. He said Democrats should try to win the fight by making people feel “uncomfortable.”
“It’s literally just creating a space where people become so uncomfortable that they have to move off the position they’re in,” he said.
The Hulk actor said he doesn’t “see any other way other than that at this point” before saying that advocates must “engage the public and get them to march, and when they march make the media take notice.”
