‘Isn’t that a little bit romantic?’: Crossfit co-founder presses ahead with jailhouse marriage to accused murderer

CrossFit co-founder Lauren Jenai has overcome a major hurdle that will now allow her to marry accused murderer Franklin Tyrone Tucker while he’s in jail.

Jenai, 48, and Tucker, 47, previously had their planned nuptials rejected, but the decision was overturned by a judge, and they will likely get married some time this month, according to the New York Post.

In 2000, Jenai and her ex-husband Greg Glassman, 63, co-founded CrossFit, a branded fitness regimen that is used by numerous celebrities including Jessica Alba, Brad Pitt, Vanessa Hudgens, and Cameron Diaz. The former couple met at the gym when Jenai was one of his clients in the late 1990s and went on to marry and have four children together. She filed for divorce in 2010 before reconnecting with Tucker, an old high school friend, over Facebook.

Tucker was arrested on first-degree murder charges in 2017 after he and another suspect allegedly stabbed to death Mathew Bonnett, 59, who had come to the aid of a neighbor being robbed at knifepoint in her Florida Keys shanty treehouse. The incident has subsequently become known as the “treehouse murder.” Jenai and Tucker’s romantic relationship started when she began trying to prove his innocence.

Jenai revealed that if they are able to wed, their first kiss as a married couple would be their first physical contact in 30 years.

“Isn’t that a little bit romantic?” she said. “Today I was called by the chaplain of the jail … One of the next steps in the process according to Florida law is we have to go to a marriage counseling class.”

She also said that she does not expect to be granted conjugal visits.
