Ellen DeGeneres tests positive for coronavirus

Ellen DeGeneres has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 62-year-old talk show host confirmed the news in a Twitter post on Thursday afternoon.

“Hi Everyone, I want to let you all know that I tested positive for COVID-19,” she said. “Fortunately, I’m feeling fine right now. Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following CDC guidelines. I’ll see you all again after the holidays. Please stay healthy and safe.”

It is unclear where DeGeneres contracted the virus or how long ago she tested positive for it.

After taking a hiatus, The Ellen DeGeneres Show returned to television in September. In October, the show decided to introduce a limited live audience back into the studio. Forty people attended in person, while 70 remained virtual. According to USA Today, DeGeneres’s studio typically holds 300 audience members.

Warner Bros. did not respond to questions from the Washington Examiner about when the host tested positive and whether others on staff at the show had contracted the virus. However, the company did say that production of the show would be halted until January.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the United States has recorded over 15.4 million cases of COVID-19 and just under 290,000 deaths from the virus.
