Some Republican members of the House hit back against Rep. Liz Cheney after she said she will not step down from office following the Wyoming Republican Party censuring her for voting to impeach former President Donald Trump.
“House Republicans overwhelmingly voted to say that this person speaks for them. She does not speak for me,” Rep. Matt Gaetz tweeted Sunday morning, following last week’s House vote to keep Cheney as Republican Conference chairwoman. “(She also does not speak for Wyoming).”

His tweet came in response to Cheney joining Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace and saying that Trump no longer has a “role” in leading the Republican Party after the riots in the Capitol last month.
“I think when you look at both his actions leading up to what happened on Jan. 6, the fact that he was impeached in a bipartisan fashion, the fact that he lost the presidency, the fact that we lost the Senate, we have to be in a position where we can say we stand for principle, we stand for [the] ideal,” she said.
The Wyoming GOP censured Cheney on Saturday and asked her to resign over her vote to impeach the former president, which she also addressed during her Fox interview.
“I’m not [resigning], sorry,” she said. “And, look, I think people all across Wyoming understand and recognize that our most important duty is to the Constitution.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene joined Gaetz in disapproving of her comments on Sunday morning.
“Trump IS our leader bc he put #AmericaFirst & will never back down. Neither will I,” she tweeted.
“Republicans attacking Trump are the same Never-Trumpers that rode his coat tails when it was politically convenient. Abandoning Trump will cost R’s the majority in ‘22. They just don’t get it.”

Cheney released a statement Saturday, after the Wyoming vote to censure, reiterating that she stands by her vote to impeach Trump.
“My vote to impeach was compelled by the oath I swore to the Constitution. Wyoming citizens know that this oath does not bend or yield to politics or partisanship. I will always fight for Wyoming values and stand up for our Western way of life,” Cheney said.
