CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — Prosecutors say the man accused in the Aurora movie theater mass shooting made threats and was banned from the University of Colorado, Denver after failing a key exam six weeks before the rampage.
They made the claims about James Holmes in court Thursday in an attempt to persuade a judge to let them see records from the university.
A university spokeswoman has disputed that Holmes was banned but says his access to restricted areas was canceled because he left his graduate program in June.
Prosecutors also said professors had urged Holmes to get into another line of work before the shooting. Attorney Karen Pearson didn’t disclose the source of their information, and nor did she elaborate on the nature of the threats.
A defense lawyer objected to the release of the records.
Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 others July 20.
